I met Victor on an ordinary day, at a store buying medical supplies. I was a stranger to him. But when he saw I needed shoes, he took his off his own feet and offered them to me. His wife, Queen, wouldn't let it end there — she ran to Goodwill to buy me a pair, ready to give me their last, just so I could get home safely.
Then they told me their story. Victor is 59. A husband. A father of two. He's battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and doctors have given him three months to live. Even facing that, his instinct was to help someone he'd never met before.
Victor's last hope is a specialized treatment at Hope4Cancer Treatment Center in Mexico — a chance his family cannot afford on their own. A man who gave away his shoes to a stranger deserves a chance to fight for more time with the people he loves.
